Projects:
Biltong box.
A chat with a South-African quickly turned into a discussion about food. He was complaining that it was difficult to get biltong in this country. A quick search on the internet ensued.
The following weekend I made this box. I have dried fruit in it, and at present am experimenting with drying meat. The fruit tastes amazing, 100% organic, no preservatives!
Materials: MDF and pine
Lights: 2X43W halogen
Fan: 12V DC computer fan
Accessories: door with magnetic hinges and latch, hygrometer and thermometer, driptray, stainless steel drying racks, 3 bars with stainless steel hooks.
Japanese floating bed.
This client's bedroom overlooked fields behind the house, and they wanted a bed which enabled them to look out of the window, without anyone seeing them. Thus a low-rise bed was required. They also didn't like anything getting stuck/lost underneath the bed or needing to dust. They did want a back-rest for sitting up whilst reading and staring out of the window.
The solution was a Japanese floating bed with a back rest.
Materials: pine
Construction method: screws, woodglue and dowels. All conceiled to preserve the clean lines and simple character of the bed. Flat slats as a traditional Japanese bed commands.
