Carving

Some people like carving faces, others carve sharp points on sticks.

I like carving geometrical objects from a solid block, where the shapes are interlocking.

There is no cutting and glueing involved! These were all carved this way!

My first project. Two interlocking rings.

Materials: Cherry

Finishing: beeswax with linseed oil

My second project. Three interlocking rings.

Also called Borromean rings.

The beauty of these rings is that if you remove one, the other two fall apart as well.

A bit more fiddly. the rings are quite oval in shape. Unfortunately the wood was splitting, so I had to be careful how I cut the shapes out of the wood. I managed this quite well, apart from one of the rings, which has a small split in it. When people see this split they think the rings were cut and glued together.

The borromean ring is my "company"-logo.

It is a lovely thing to play with, very kineasthetic.

Materials: Cherry

Finishing: beeswax with linseed.
